Ingmar Bergman's Winter Light unfolds like a quiet crisis of the soul. In a small, frozen parish, a weary pastor moves through a sparse afternoon service, his faith worn thin by doubt and grief. As he confronts a desperate parishioner seeking meaning in a frightening world, every word carries the weight of belief slipping through his fingers. What follows is stark, intimate, and unflinching—a meditation on silence, faith, and the frightening possibility that the answers we seek may never come.
This screening will be followed by a discussion on the film led by A&M Professors Daniel Humphrey, co-editor of A Companion to Ingmar Bergman, and Mikko Tuhkanen, who recently completed a study on Winter Light's relationship with our next Member Pick'd Flick, First Reformed.
